The East Africa Career Guidance Practitioners Association (EACGPA) is a newly registered not profit organization. Its mission is 'To promote the delivery and development of high quality services that enable informed educational, training and occupational choices, and effective career management.'
Careers education and guidance (CEG) activities have been carried out in East Africa since 2002 and it was successfully carried out under EACGPA this year attracting participants from Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
Establishing high quality career guidance and counseling programmes is important in any well-functioning school/organization. EACGPA has been formed in particular to improve and promote career guidance and counselling in East Africa.
Amongst the many benefits careers guidance can offer are:
Guidance to students interested in further education, higher education and vocational training.
Improve student retention in secondary schools and colleges.
Facilitate the transition into work for the form 2, 4, 6 and college leavers.
To be the informed centre for ethical and best practice, research and development, education and training for all those interested in the practice, growth and influence and future of career education and guidance
Be the leading professional association for career education and guidance practitioners in East Africa, comprising of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda - the organisation for experts on choices for learning and work
Support best practice in whatever context our members operate and to be the focal point for all career education and guidance practitioners - researchers, guidance workers, managers, teachers and trainers - to share their knowledge and enjoyment of the profession in which they are engaged
Work collaboratively with other organisations and agencies interested or involved in career education and guidance to influence policy makers and to promote quality standards
Raise awareness of and promote the benefits of career education and guidance
